It’s out with the hip hop and in with the hick rock at the Buck Wild Saloon. The former home of Beyond nightclub will reopen Friday night with a new urban cowboy theme and a funky soundtrack that mixes country, rock, and Top 40. The flyer announcing the opening calls the spot a “badass American dance bar,” playing the likes of Kid Rock, Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys, AC/DC, Kelly Clarkson, Springsteen, Toby Keith, Shania Twain, Black Eyed Peas, and Shakira. Um, okaaay. We’ll see how many train wrecks this playlist causes, but hey, you never know, right?
Despite the wacked-out music selection, I’ll admit to being curious. The space is big enough to allow for some seriously goofy line dancing, and I think that’s the entire idea. This is where the folks we watched last weekend while camping at Lake McConaughy — aka the White Trash Riviera — will go to get their drink on, play pool, rock out, kick up their heels, and hook up.
(By the way, the lake was great, but McConaughy is not a recommended destination for lovers of the pristine outdoors. That place is all about car camping, boating, water skiing, fishing, and four-wheeling on the beaches. Fun, but not exactly classy.)
But back to Buck Wild. They’ve invited a few of us looky-loos to roll down tomorrow for the firsthand experience, so I’ll satisfy my inner hick chick leanings then. And this Friday, everyone is invited down for the grand opening, where the Nascar Bar, the Daisy Duke Bar, and the Big Rig Bar will be slinging free drinks for all from 8 until 11 p.m. with no cover all night. Can you say “Yee Haw!?!?” Giddy up, lil’ doggies.
