If you haven’t read Rebecca Landwehr’s moving post about the people and the city of New Orleans, scroll down and read it now. It is just heartbreaking what’s happening down there, but there are already a few local benefit events scheduled. Try to support them, and please donate what you can to relief efforts. Chuck Morris and Mayor Hickenlooper announced today that Dave Matthews Band will add a fourth date to the scheduled shows September 9 – 11. On September 12, the fourth day will be a benefit show — including tickets and all vendor proceeds — for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Everything is being donated, from the Dave Matthews performance to the stage workers, security, vendors, and the use of the Red Rocks facility. Tickets go on sale next Wednesday, September 7 through Ticketmaster; or 303-830-TIXS. Members of the Conscious Alliance will be holding a food drive on all four nights – the most needed items are bottled water, hand-held snack foods (energy bars, etc) and hearty canned food (stews, pastas), utensils, disinfectants and diapers. And next Wednesday, September 7 at Mao Asian Bistro and nine75 restaurant, they’ll donate 20 percent of all receipts to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. I’m sure there will be more events scheduled to help out, so please do what you can to show your support in the coming weeks.
