Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!
If you don’t know what movie this line is from, you are certainly not one of the nearly 10,000 people who joined me last night at Red Rocks for Film On the Rocks’ presentation of The Princess Bride. It’s one of my fave films of all time, and apparently I’m in good company.
I know I keep going on and on about the series this summer, but it’s for a good reason. Film on the Rocks, well, rocks. Imagine a chorus of thousands yelling out “As… you… wiiiiish…” in unison as Westley goes sailing down the ridge into the fire swamp. And with that stellar view of Denver stretching out behind the movie screen too. That’s just really cool, and you can’t do it anywhere but right here.
It’s no longer an in-the-know sort of event though. Get your tickets ahead of time and hurry up — there are only two shows left. Next Tuesday, August 9 is The Goonies, and on Tuesday August 16 it’s Ray. If you don’t make it, (inconceivable!) you’ll have to wait until next summer, when I start chattering about how cool these events are all over again.
