I stopped into Gelazzi on Larimer Square yesterday, and was taken aback by the sheer variety of items on the menu there. This little gelato shop offers great coffee, handmade gelato, and — my favorite twist — an entire menu of gelato cocktails, perfect for an after dinner dessert-and-drink combo. I sampled a taste of several of the seasonal cocktails; the Halloween menu includes the Undertaker (Cointreau, Jager, vanilla gelato and light rum), the Witches Brew (coconut rum, raspberry gelato, Chambord, grenadine, blue curacao), and the Banshee (white creme de cacao, cream, and banana gelato). Yummy. Of course I wasn’t really there for the cocktails. I tried the two seasonal gelato flavors, Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Spice. The pumpkin is good, but the pecan is absolutely amazing, and it tastes like a lighter, less sweet version of the real thing. Delish.
And with snow expected to arrive tonight or Thursday, here’s a great little snowy day secret. Drop by anytime the white flakes are falling, and ask for a special cocktail called the “Flaming Angel.” It’s hot chocolate with a shot of vanilla syrup and a touch of cayenne pepper to give it a little extra heat. They add dark and white creme de cacao, top if off with whipped cream, and only offer it to folks in the know who order the $4 creation that isn’t listed on the menu. Let it snow.
