There are a lot of “firsts” that signify that summer is officially here. First camping trip. First barbecue. First sunburn. First really-fresh strawberry. And tonight, the first flick of the Film on the Rocks series at Red Rocks.
I’m a huge fan of seeing concerts at the Rocks, but the movie bug has only hit me in the last two years. Maybe because it combines the concert and the movie experience — two of my favorite things — it seems particularly cool. Maybe it’s just because I saw my first concert at Red Rocks as a high school kid years ago, and the novelty of the movie nights has yet to wear off. Either way, tonight should be a fun night. The schedule:
6:30 p.m.: Air Force pilots will perform a special flyover performance, zooming over Red Rocks, and then local band Strange Condition takes the stage.
7:30 p.m.: Local buzz-band Redline Defiance take the stage next for their set.
8:45 p.m.: Top Gun screens at dusk.
Coming soon: Almost Famous, Pink Floyd’s The Wall (definitely a must-see), King Kong, and more.
So far, I’ve done the camping, the barbecue, the sunburn, and a flick at Red Rocks. Guess I’d better start hunting down the best farmer’s market in search of the perfect strawberry, eh?
