Spring has sprung, and all the cool kids are running around like crazy lately. Now that the evenings are longer and lighter and the nights are warming up, it’s time to get your party on. Tonight, the hippest happening is over at Vinyl, where local music writer/ orange peel sculptor/ vocalist/ multi-talented dude Orange Peel Moses is celebrating his “unbirthday,” Alice-style. Look for white rabbits, Drink Me specials, and at least one or two mad hatters. OPM’s holding down vocals tonight with his live PA performance group Friends in Stereo, where DJ Satori-C and PJ Stroller have his back on the turntables. Should be a hot crowd, full of the dance club kiddies and lots of creative artsy types from the alternative music and art scene as well. Downstairs, Little Mike continues to get deep and dirty with his weekly Basement Sessions. Tonight he’s joined by Lee Burridge, whose “365” residency plot to change the world through dance music has led him to Denver for the month of April. Past mini-residencies have included spots like Hong Kong and Florence, so we should be honored that he chose to stop here for a month on his global tour. I interviewed Lee earlier this year about the project, and he explained it to me like this. “One thing I’ve learned about living away from home and DJing all around the globe is that if you take the time to get to know the crowd and the music it affects people differently than the usual hit-and-run style of a typical DJ tour,” he said. Can’t make it tonight? Next week he’ll be in the house at Vinyl with Sasha for one last Denver residency gig. And at the end of his year of in-depth DJ gigs, he’ll be releasing a special double CD of the “365” sets, including input from Little Mike and the Casa Del Soul collective from Denver. Tonight or next week, this isn’t one to miss.
