This is when you know you have good friends. Colorado Trail for MS is a seven-month long fundraising effort for the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Society that begins this weekend. The effort will cumulate with a group of friends — one of whom was recently diagnosed with MS — who will hike the 471-mile Colorado Trail in August. This epic trek will take the hikers through national forests, wilderness areas, rivers and mountain ranges. The group is looking for sponsorships for the hike, and plans to hold several events in the upcoming months, starting with Saturday night’s benefit concert at the Soiled Dove in Lodo. Called “Rockin’ Out for the Rocky Mountain MS Center,” the show features three local bands: Mission 19, The Menagerie, and The Mike Woodard Band. Tickets are $20 advance, $30 at the door, with $15 of each ticket going toward a tax-deductible donation to the Rocky Mountain MS Society. (The friends will finance the hike themselves; all proceeds from events and sponsorships will go directly to the Rocky Mountain MS Society). They hope to average about 15 miles a day on the hike, making it a solid month-long endeavor. Seriously, that’s dedication. Kudos to them for rallying to the cause, so let’s step up and show our support on Saturday for the concert. And hey — you might find your new favorite local band!
