The Club World Awards ceremony is tonight in Miami, Florida, right in the thick of the Winter Music Conference, which is dance music’s hottest industry event. Think massive dance parties that run all night at beach hotels and move to superclubs come morning to keep the party rocking all day long.
The Club World Awards are hosted by industry trade mag Club Systems International, and the awards honor the club industry’s best and brightest. So why should you care? Well, Denver has not just one, but two nominees. The Church is up for Best Club (as opposed to Best Superclub, which is reserved for the mega clubs you’ll find in Vegas, NYC, and Miami). The Church won the award in 2003 and 2004, and the fact that it’s back in the running again means we have a truly unique dance destination right here in our happy little cowtown. The other nominee is Monarck Lounge, which is up for Best Interior Design along with designer Jeffrey Elliott. Elliott told me earlier this week that though he’s excited to have been nominated, he had never so much as heard of the awards before, let alone expected to be included. “I had no idea these awards even existed,” he said. “This came out of the clear blue.”
Still, if either of the clubs wins, it helps raise Denver’s national profile. The Church and Vinyl nightclubs already attract a steady stream of international DJs, but this will just ensure that Denver stays on the club circuit radar. I’ll have the results over the weekend, but even if they don’t score the bragging rights tonight, it’s great for Denver to just be represented at these awards.
