If the opening night party was any indication, it sure seems like the Robusto Room in Park Meadows is going to be a hit. Last night, I dropped by the new wine and cigar lounge to see what they have to offer, and I really liked what I saw.
The small space is cozy, with a capacity of only 80 people, but it’s warm, inviting and well designed. Earth tones, leather chairs and stools, and lots of windows offer a nice-but-casual vibe, and the menu includes lots of wine and cocktail choices and a handful of appetizers and desserts. The wine menu’s highlight is a “30 under $30” list, and many are small-production bottles that are available by the glass. We tried the Tall Horse cabernet and the Parducci zinfandel, which we loved. Then we tried one of the signature cocktails – the Three Grapes martini – which I didn’t love. The combo of champagne, ruby port, and congnac sounded interesting, but the result was far too intense for my personal tastes.
Overall, I think it’s a great spot. I grooved to the jazz trio and dig the fact that there is a new jazz venue in the area. But I don’t care for the cigar lounge; even though the cigar room is separate, the door was propped open in between the bar and cigar lounge for most of the evening, making for a cigar-scented scene throughout.
