Don’t feel guilty for indulging your Chipotle craving—at least not today. Coloradans should head to Chipotle on Wednesday, February 7, because the locally founded fast-casual joint will donate a hefty amount of its proceeds to Project Angel Heart.
The Denver nonprofit has been preparing and delivering nutritious meals to Coloradans with life-threatening illnesses since the early ’90s, and today, all 75 Colorado Chipotle locations have agreed to donate 50 percent of their sales (make sure to mention Project Angel Heart!) to the cause.
“We believe the right food is a critical part of medical treatment,” says Amy Daly, director of marketing and communications at Project Angel Heart. “Several of our clients can’t get to the grocery store or cook for themselves, so we bring the food they need to them.” The organization is expected to serve 3,000 Coloradans living with cancer, HIV/AIDS, heart disease, and other serious illnesses this year alone.
“After touring the Project Angel Heart facility during their Taste of Life event last year, we realized their mission aligns with [ours],” says Lacy Caudel, field marketing strategist for Chipotle’s Rocky Mountain Region. “[We want] to cultivate nourished communities where wholesome food is enjoyed everyday.”
In order to ensure Project Angel Heart gets a donation, make sure to mention them by name. Similar fundraising events that Chipotle has hosted in the past have raised anywhere from $7,000 up to $45,000, and the more word-of-mouth there is beforehand, the more successful the fundraiser will be. So, bring a friend, order your favorite Chipotle combo, and add the guac—it’s all for a good cause.
