Xcel Energy, recently criticized by anti-coal protesters in Boulder, is planning to move into a new office tower at 1800 Larimer in Denver that is “arguably” the greenest in the city, according to The Denver Post. It’s also the kind of building that most workers would envy. The 22-story building, for instance, includes a spacious fitness center and a large garden terrace.
“We wanted to make the experience of the employee better,” says Rich McClintock, president and chief executive of development firm Westfield Company, which is leasing part of the building to Xcel.
Employees start arriving in the building with the highest green-friendly standards–certified LEED Platinum–next month. The building, designed with sustainable materials, should conserve energy and save water, according to CBS4. The air ventilation system comes from the floor, not the ceiling, and employees can alter the flow in their space with the ball of their foot. The trendy break room is lined with bamboo cabinets and the marble-like countertop is made of recycled materials.
