As a freelancer, I’m always on the lookout for coffee shops, cafes, and other spots to plug in and get some work done. With good parking, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of worthy sips and nibbles to keep me company, one of my favorite picks is the Source. I especially love visiting at lunchtime, when I can make a meal of the meat and cheese plate from Mondo Market.
There are countless good charcuterie plates in Denver, but I love Mondo’s build-your-own spin on the classic. Customers choose three selections from the specialty market’s vast meat and cheese cases. With the exception of a few super-pricey selections (like an acorn-fed Ibérico), “it’s open picking,” Mondo Market’s Michael Davis says. I usually nab new-to-me items (recently that included slices of dry-cured tuna), but Davis’s favorite combo is Serrano ham, Idiazabal sheep’s milk cheese, and Valdeón, a blue from León. “I love Spanish fare and it’s a great combination of textures, salt contents, and flavors that just work,” he says. The $15 plate of three selections comes with crackers, olives, and candied nuts and is easily enough to call lunch.
