The Colorado Rockies stretched their winning streak to five games yesterday, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2. The win marked the Rockies’ first-ever sweep of the Cardinals in St. Louis, according to Purple Row.
The team’s recent success has been “startling,” writes The Denver Post: “A bumbling mess two weeks ago, a team even the general manager admitted was hard to watch, they have become a blend of solid pitching, good defense and timely hitting.”
The team won some added national attention when third baseman Ian Stewart (pictured) was named the National League Player of the Week for the week ending June 7 (via the Seattle Post-Intelligencer).
The Rockies hope to continue their new-found winning ways in Milwaukee tonight against the Brewers (6:05 p.m., Fox Sports Net).
