The Denver Broncos’ NFL.com stat sheet is simply ugly. The only points logged in yesterday’s 10-6 loss to the division-leading Kansas City Chiefs came from two field goals by Matt Prater. Kyle Orton passed for a paltry 117 yards after completing just nine of 28 attempts, one of his worst performances ever, notes The Denver Post. One bright spot for the Broncos’ offense came from running back Knowshon Moreno, who ran for 161 yards, the best-ever performance by a Broncos running back at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Champ Bailey provided more shining moments, shutting down dangerous wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, one of the hottest receivers in the NFL. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King points out that Bowe scored an astounding 13 touchdowns in the last seven games, calling Bailey’s performance one of the few “outstanding defensive days of 2010 by any player.” Bowe tells the Post that Bailey is the best defender he’s ever played against and that he has his vote for the Pro Bowl. But Bailey’s days in Denver could be numbered, after the team mysteriously pulled a contract extension off the table earlier this year.
