The race is on to see which resort gets to host the 2015 Alpine skiing world championships, and town leaders in Vail and Beaver Creek think they’ll land the competition, according to The Associated Press. They’re up against European powerhouse resorts in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, and St. Moritz, Switzerland, but the Vail-Beaver Creek bidding team thinks location is an advantage.
The two-week championship hasn’t been in Colorado since 1999, and the 2013 Alpine skiing world championships in Schladming, Austria, will mark the seventh-straight European venue.
