If the NBA season were to end tonight, Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony would win the scoring title with an average of 37.7 points per game.
Obviously, the season doesn’t end tonight, and the Nuggets are facing the Indiana Pacers in the fourth game of an 82-game season, but Melo’s scoring is still pretty impressive. So much so, in fact, that he was named the NBA Western Conference player of the week yesterday (via The Denver Post).
Along with his incredible scoring, he’s logged seven rebounds per game and more than four assists. If he keeps that up, he’ll make a serious run at a league MVP award. Bleacher Report calls Melo “officially the purest shooter in the NBA today, as the ball rarely even grazes the rim when his beautiful jumper drops through the net.”
CBS Sports notes that heading into tonight’s game in Indiana, the Nuggets are off to their best start in 24 years and will face off against a team that’s off to its worst start in 10 years. If that’s not enough to make any Pacer fan worry, add this to the mix: The Nuggets have won eight of 10 meetings between the two squads going back to January 29, 2005, including four in Indiana.
