The Boulder Valley School District, which scrambled to find substitutes to cover for the 342 teachers who did not show up yesterday, is expecting more of the same today. That’s according to the Daily Camera, which notes teachers in the Boulder Valley Education Association (the teachers’ union) and school administrators are battling over stalled contract negotiations. The union is seeking more for cost-of-living expenses permanently for teachers, but the district is offering a 1 percent pay increase this year in a one-year contract. District officials say the budget took a hit this year when the state withheld $110 million until 2010, writes The Denver Post, but teachers say school districts will receive more money per student this year and want the increase to be passed on to them. The district is posting its side of the story here and the union’s side is here.
