In Kentucky’s Daniel Boone National Forest, a black bear is on the loose after mauling a hiker—the first-ever recorded bear attack on a human in that state (via The Associated Press). But in Colorado, it seems, bear attacks like the one reported last week are on the rise. Another incident occurred Saturday morning, after a bear bit a man as he slept under a blanket near the Manna Soup Kitchen in Durango, according to the Herald. Though the bite did not break skin, state and federal wildlife agents joined forces to track the bear with dogs, following a set of muddy prints to a cemetery, where the bear climbed a tree and was shot by an officer. Meanwhile, Tyler Nord recounts for the Alaska Dispatch what it is like to be attacked by a bear—a grizzly, no less.
