Former Denver stockbroker Shawn Merriman, the convicted Ponzi schemer serving 12 years behind bars, clearly liked his boy toys, as you’ll find Saturday if you attend an auction of his assets by the U.S. Marshals Service that is meant to help recover $20 million for his victims. Dickensheet and Associates in Denver will auction off a 2006 Aston Martin Vantage originally worth more than $121,000. The odometer of the silver beauty, with a V8 engine, reads just 1,268. The most valued item available Saturday will be a motor coach that originally sold for $685,000. Merriman, a former bishop with the Church of Latter-day Saints, pleaded guilty to defrauding at least 67 investors, including John Elway, and was sentenced in September (via Fox 31). The auction “is important,” John Kammerzell with the U.S. Marshals Service tells 9News, “because from a law enforcement standpoint, and certainly from a victim standpoint, the ill-gotten gains of individuals must be returned to those who lost their money, lost their investments.”
