Food Truck Safari: Nautical Nibbles, September 23
Denver might be landlocked, but the zoo offers more than one way to consider marine animals this weekend. Grab a seafood bite from one of 10 food trucks, including ahi tuna burritos from Chuey Fu’s Latin-Asian Grub or sustainable eel rolls from Roll It Up Sushi Truck. Then Angela Haseltine Pozzi, the artist behindWashed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, will answer questions about her conservation-focused exhibit featuring large-scale sculptures made from sea-salvaged refuse, which will debut at the zoo this weekend. Fri 6:30-9 p.m. Denver Zoo, 2300 Steele St., 720-337-1400. $15.
Confluence: A Musical Journey, September 23
Honor the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service with an engaging film and musical performance inspired by nature. After the movie, sip on a brew from Finkel & Garf Brewing Company as the band plays tunes it wrote on its journey. Fri 7-11 p.m. Cluster Studios, 3881 Steele St., 303-350-1401. $10.
44 Plays for 44 Presidents, September 23 to October 2
Escape from the current election season with a play that highlights the light-hearted absurdity in the lives of our former commanders-in-chief. During this lightning-round summary of American history, you’ll watch 44 two-minute vignettes that cover each of the former presidencies, from our nation’s idealistic founders to the men that navigated economic hardship after the Great Depression. After watching improvisational scenes as well as prepared monologues, the audience can cast a fictional ballot on which of the former leaders they’d like to see return to the White House this November instead of Trump or Clinton. Wed-Sat 7:30 p.m.; Sun 2 p.m. University Theatre at the University of Colorado Boulder, 1595 Pleasant St., Boulder, 303-492-7355. $15-$20.
