The Moth: Into the Wild, August 18
This intimate night of readings by NPR’s acclaimed storytelling group, the Moth, is tailor-made for an adventurous Colorado audience. Dame Wilburn, a Detroit-based poet and Moth Grand Slam champion, will host a performance filled with true tales of adventure, discovery, and uncertainty inspired by storytellers’ experiences in the wilderness and in wild cities. As You Like It, August 18 to August 27
During this outdoor performance, a talented troupe of actors will lead you on a trek through the fictional Forest of Arden. This innovative production of one of Shakespeare’s comedies focuses on Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, as she disguises herself as a boy and woos her true love Orlando with live covers of songs by the Beatles and Johnny Cash. You’ll be doing some walking as you follow the actors, so be sure to snag a glass of Fiction Beer Company’s Dual Nature hoppy lager before you set off on your journey. Fjällräven Classic, August 19 to August 21
Escape the stress of your daily life during this three-day, 20-mile guided trek in the backcountry. As you wind along the North Canadian Trail and the Ruby Jewel Trail, take in breathtaking views of 12,951-feet-tall Clark’s Peak and spend a few hours relaxing by Jewel Lake. Athena Amplified: Pop-Up Performances, August 20
During this festival celebrating female artists, you’ll actually be entertained during your light rail journey. Attendees will board the train together and get off at select stops to enjoy live demonstrations, including a performance of Polynesian dance by Bella Diva and a costume showcase by local designer Kati Oltyan, on their journey to Union Station. At your final stop, check out a runway show curated by Darlene C. Ritz, the fashion design chair at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design.
