Alcohol delivery service Drizly launched in Denver in 2014, and since then it’s been gathering some fascinating data on our residents’ unique tastes in booze. It should come as no surprise that the 80202 zip code—which includes the central business district, LoDo, and Riverfront Park—is Denver’s “thirstiest” area, year-to-date, according to Drizly. But this downtown locale also tops out all zip codes serviced by the app, including ones in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, D.C.
The top product ordered in the 80202 zip is—wait for it—Coors Light. This could partially be blamed on Coors Field’s location, but it might also have something to do with all the beer pong-playing bros in LoDo. (This micro-hood’s makeup skews male, according to real estate data.) Drizly reports that downtown dwellers drink more beer than Denver residents on average, with the sudsy beverage making up 45 percent of all Drizly purchases, compared to 35 percent for the metro area.
Following 80202, Drizly reports the next thirstiest zips are 80205, 80206, 80211 and 80203. Northeast Denver’s 80205—which includes Five Points, Cole, Whittier, Clayton, and Skyland—apparently has an affinity for Pabst Blue Ribbon. And in 80206 (Congress Park, Cherry Creek), vodka is king; Svedka Vodka, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Ketel One Vodka round out their top five most-ordered products.
The 80211 zip code, which encompasses Highland, Highland Park, Sunnyside, is a big fan of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc (classy!). And in 80203—Speer, Capitol Hill, North Capitol Hill—shots of Jameson Irish Whiskey, its most purchased liquor, are likely flowing like water. Four out of the five thirstiest zip codes ordered Coors Light more than anything else—the outlier, 80203, is apparently very fond of Svedka Vodka.
But the biggest takeaway from Drizly’s data isn’t about where people are drinking, but what. It seems a lot of residents have yet to discover Denver’s booming craft beer scene. Yes, a lot of it is bottled or canned and yes, Drizly delivers.
