According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Colorado ranks in the top half of the country for incidence of breast cancer, meaning up to 127 people per every 100,000 Coloradans get breast cancer.
This month, in support of those afflicted by breast cancer, check out Denver’s inaugural Yoga on the Steps fundraiser in Cheesman Park on September 23 (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) Hosted by the nonprofit Living Beyond Breast Cancer, which provides people with support, resources, and education once they’ve been diagnosed, this outdoor yoga session and healthy living expo is open to people of all ages and abilities. In addition to the yoga (bring your own mat) led by renowned yoga instructor Jennifer Schelter, enjoy spiritual music by Yvette Pecoraro, a light organic breakfast by La Vie Catering, and exhibits from the likes of LifeSpark Cancer Resources, Porter Adventist Hospital, Denver Center for Acupuncture, Clif Bar, Denver Integrative Massage School, and other wellness experts, yoga and fitness studios, and local nonprofits.
Denver is just the third city to host a Yoga on the Steps event, which was founded 10 years ago in Philadelphia and extended to Washington, D.C. last year. As of today, registrants in Denver have raised $22,055—a little under one third of the total goal: $70,000. You can register here as a team captain or individual to start raising funds for this important mission. If fund-raising isn’t your thing, contribute a $50 donation to participate.
