Michael Roberts breaks the news in this week’s Westword that 5280 has hired star writer Robert Sanchez away from the Denver Post (second item). Roberts praises Sanchez as one of the paper’s “least wrinkled (and most productive) staffers,” but that only tells part of the story. For a glimpse of the talent Sanchez brings to 5280, check out any of these examples of his work:
- “Jonathan’s journey: The boy who would not die”
- “He’s just being Bouna”
- “A year after Katrina: Colorado”
- “Slap shots and snapshots”
In the course of preparing his story, Roberts interviewed me via email, but wasn’t able to get much of what I said into the print edition. Instead, he posted my thoughts (in their entirety) on the Westword blog. The chance to get our story out to a new audience is much appreciated (through regular 5280 readers already know most of the key points). We honestly hope that other publishers will learn from our experience that investing in editorial quality can pay mighty dividends.
