Earlier this year, Colorado State Patrol trooper David Dolan was pulled over in his cruiser and arrested for drunken driving while on duty. Now, he’s headed to jail, after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and use of a prohibited weapon (he carried his gun while drunk, an offense under state law), according to 7News. Dolan, who also admitted to official misconduct and was fired June 2, will spend 10 days behind bars for the incident, which occurred in March.
Dolan’s attorney, Michael Moran, sought home detention for Dolan, who apologized in court, noting that his client went to a rehabilitation clinic after the arrest.
“Mr. Dolan has a serious issue with post-traumatic stress,” Moran added outside the courtroom (via the Colorado Springs Gazette).
But the judge thought Dolan, whose blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he was arrested, should spend time in jail because of the severity of the offense.
