An unidentified law enforcement source familiar with the 1987 murder case of Peggy Hettrick says DNA evidence has ruled out Scott Kimball as Hettrick’s killer, reports the Fort Collins Coloradoan. In an article published over the weekend, The Denver Post outed Kimball, a serial killer, as a possible suspect in Hettrick’s death (for which Timothy Masters was once wrongfully imprisoned).
Still, Colorado Attorney General John Suthers tells 9News there is new progress on the case. “We have additional DNA evidence that causes us to feel very good about the way this case is moving forward,” Suthers says. “It’s a matter in front of the grand jury, and I cannot say anymore.”
