The sitting area is part of a series of rooftop rooms, including a yoga space and covered dining table, that landscape architect Luke Sanzone, principal at Marpa in Boulder, designed for a young Breckenridge couple who weekends in Denver. “They wanted to feel like they were in a sanctuary, perched up and away from the city,” Sanzone says. His smart solution: a series of “living walls,” custom-made out of woven metal, that block the wind and views of a nearby apartment building while framing a picturesque panorama encompassing the city skyline and Front Range. Crate & Barrel furniture and a custom, hand-formed fire pit (filled with recycled glass from ’70s-era TVs!) keep the space cozy, and resilient city-friendly plants envelop the area. Moral of the story? We Coloradans can create outdoor happy-places wherever we live.
