Boulder Congressman Mark Udall’s appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” last night contained this newsmaking exchange:
Stephen Colbert: Three times you almost summited Mt. Everest, but had to turn back. That must have sucked.
Udall: The point is, is the summit really why you go? You’re the philospher. I’ll let you answer that.
Colbert: It is. The summit is why you go. And that’s why it sucked. Don’t take this the wrong way, but doesn’t that make you a quitter?
Udall: I don’t think the Q word applies. Maybe the L word.
Colbert: You are aware that the L word is “lesbian,” right?
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
