Colorado towns looking to attract summertime adrenaline seekers are following a new recipe: Just add water. In Fruita, wakeboard enthusiasts Victor and Kodi Imondi transformed a 30-acre lake into Imondi Wake Zone, a wakeboarding and kneeboarding park that uses cables like those on ski lifts to pull riders through the surf. On the Front Range, Lafayette is letting the H2O do the work at its month-old Great Outdoors Waterpark (pictured). Recreationists can choose among a 230-foot lazy river, two water slides, and a climbing cargo net. We recommend the 21-foot-tall Double Trouble slide, where two people can race through curvy tubes. Those in search of a bigger rush will have another option next summer when the Poudre River Whitewater Park opens in Fort Collins. The ambitious design includes two sets of rapids, put-in points for kayakers and tubers, and hiking trails for those who prefer to get their endorphin fixes on dry land.
