Breckenridge has a special place in my heart. The BreckConnect was my first Colorado gondola ride. It’s where I learned to snowboard, and my go-to spot for a day trip or a quick dose of mountain air. And for the past two years, I’ve witnessed the impressive artistry displayed during the town’s International Snow Sculpture Championships.
This year, I’ll be checking out some of Breck’s holiday festivities, starting with this weekend’s Race of the Santas. The five-block fun run isn’t about setting PRs, it’s about spreading some holiday cheer and supporting a great cause. For your $30 registration fee, you’ll get a Santa suit (to keep) and the opportunity to hop, skip, walk, or run down Main Street with hundreds of other Kris Kringles. Or, for $10, bring your own suit and register the day of the race. All proceeds benefit Summit County’s Adopt an Angel, an organization that provides gifts to needy families during the holidays. Bring the kids—they’ll receive antlers and bells for the Reindeer Run.
Can’t make it this weekend? Check out one of these fun events instead:
Breckenridge Snowflake Challenge: Before the International Snow Sculpture Championships, Breck had an amateur snow art competition right on Main Street (eventually pro teams got in on the act and the sculptures got so big they required their own park). Here’s your chance to show off your sculpting skills in the heart of Breck’s downtown (and win cash—first prize is $1,500). The event has been postponed in the hopes that more snow will fall soon, so keep your eye on the site for details.
Winter Dew Tour: The world’s top skiiers and snowboarders will thrill the crowds on Peak 8 as they demonstrate their skills in Big Air, Superpipe, and Slopestyle during this four-day freestyle competition. Other festivities include a film night and a free concert in downtown Breckenridge. December 13—16.
