Consider the taco: The corn (or flour) tortilla is nothing if not a blank canvas for any number of spectacular combinations—and tonight, Denver’s obsession with the Mexican food staple turns into a throwdown. The first-annual Top Taco will transform Sculpture Park into a taco- and margarita-tasting bonanza. A ticket ($65 general admission; $125 VIP) buys you unlimited sampling from 23 competitors, including staples such as Pinche Tacos, Comida, Adelitas, and Machete, and a few dark horses (the Squeaky Bean, the Kitchen Next Door, and Highland Tap and Burger). No matter who wins, it’s going to be a delicious battle of grilled meats, salsa, and cheese.
In addition to People’s Choice awards, a panel of judges (myself included) will determine the champions for most creative taco, most traditional taco, and best margarita. Let the feasting begin.
Proceeds benefit Colorado ProStart, the Colorado Restaurant Association‘s high school hospitality education program.
