Medical marijuana proponents have put a new twist on the race for Colorado attorney general—one that, The Durango Herald writes, is partly about “drugs.” Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation, a group that advocates legalizing marijuana, will unveil its own voters’ guide, which reviews candidates for attorney general, governor, and state legislature based on their views about marijuana, which is already legal in Colorado for medicinal purposes (via The Associated Press).
The guide isn’t expected to be comprehensive. A majority of candidates failed to respond. But the group, which claims alcohol is more dangerous than pot, plans to praise Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett for his views. The Democrat is challenging Republican state Attorney General John Suthers, who is seen by the group as a staunch opponent to the full legalization of marijuana, notes the Colorado Daily. The group also will chide Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper for his opposition to marijuana legalization.
