The Colorado Rockies’ recently lacking offense came back to life last night against the Marlins in Florida. Unfortunately, the pitching wasn’t up to par, and the Rockies lost the game 9-8. The team has now dropped three of the last four games.
Last night’s pitching issues are particularly troubling considering that Ubaldo Jimenez was on the mound. The Rockies were able to score in bunches, notes The Denver Post, but Jimenez played his worst game of the year, lasting barely more than five innings before being yanked.
Nevertheless, the team still had a chance to win, after second baseman Jonathan Herrera hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning. It was Herrera’s first home run at the Major League level—even including Major League batting practice. But it wasn’t enough, as closer Huston Street came into the game for the save and gave up a walk-off, two-run home run to the Marlins’ Donnie Murphy, who’s played in just four games this year.
“It was the ultimate letdown,” Street says.
