The Colorado Avalanche dropped a disappointing home game to the Boston Bruins, 6-2, Saturday, letting in two goals on bad bounces off the skates of defensemen, notes ESPN. But neither the lackluster goaltending of Craig Anderson nor the loss detracted from the buzz created after former Avs superstar Peter Forsberg returned to skate with the team during practice earlier in the day. The 37-year-old Swede, who spent 10 seasons in an Avalanche jersey and was part of the Stanley Cup-winning squads of 1996 and 2001, worked out on the ice for 45 minutes Saturday, reports the Denver Post.
Forsberg says his oft-injured right foot feels better than it has in years, and he hopes to use the next few days of practice with the team to see if he can revive his pro career: “I need to see where I am physically, and practicing with NHL players is the best way to find that out” (via NHL.com). The prospect of a comeback has former teammates, as well as the younger players, giddy about the chance to skate with Forsberg, whose offensive skills could bolster the team, which is ailing from injuries to several key scorers. Colorado faces off against the St. Louis Blues at the Pepsi Center tonight.
