Today marks the 147th anniversary of the battle at Puebla–when Mexico unexpectedly overpowered France on Latin American turf. Although the victory isn’t widely celebrated in Mexico, Denver throws a massive party every year. This coming weekend, mariachi bands and sombrero-toting vaqueros will gather in Civic Center Park for the Cinco de Mayo celebration. But if you want to celebrate the Mexican-American holiday tonight–on the actual anniversary–the place to do so it is at Boettcher Concert Hall. The Mexican consulate has teamed up with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra for a free concert of classical Mexican music. Mariachis will play and the symphony will accompany them, while Fiesta Colorado Dance swings flowing skirts and colorful ponchos. 7 p.m., free Boettcher Concert Hall, 1000 14th St., 303-623-7876 For tickets, call 303-331-1110, ext. 111
