Fans of the French Press Cafe and Bakery’s chocolate bourbon pecan French toast, prepare to have your heart broken: Despite appearing on the website, the decadent breakfast favorite no longer sits on the menu. This sad fact is true at both the Aurora cafe and the new month-old outpost at Belmar (the previous Lakewood location was slated for demolition).

There is good news, however, the new space is roomy and gracious—and far cleaner than the Aurora original. All of which makes the French Press a fine spot to dig into my second choice for breakfast: the strawberry covered French toast with Devonshire cream and house-made graham cracker syrup.

Go hungry because the breakfast entrée comes with two perfectly cooked eggs and super thick, peppery bacon (or a choice of sausage or ham). The dish will more than tide me over until (hopefully) the chocolate bourbon pecan version reappears.
