In the spirit of February’s holiday of romance, the Curtis Hotel in downtown is offering a “Couples We Love” special. This would seem to be just a fun stunt to encourage people to add some zest to their Valentine’s Day plans, but when daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres heard Denverites had the chance to reserve the “The Ellen & Portia” package, she called the Curtis Hotel on Wednesday night to find out the details. When the unsuspecting desk worker, Connie, answered the phone, DeGeneres pretended to be an interested customer looking for the specifics on the package.
Turns out “The Ellen & Portia” package invites guests to “Shake you groove thing like popular TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi.” Along with the room, reservations include a CD of popular tunes for your own private dance party, a batch of blondies, a bottle of California red wine, a surprise welcome amenity to make you truly feel like DeGeneres and de Rossi, and a pair of blonde wigs—one short and one long. But, DeGeneres politely informed Connie—who was invited to attend a taping of The Ellen Show for being a good sport on the phone—that her wife had recently cut her hair short too. DeGeneres also said she would be sending the Curtis additional treats from the Ellen Store for people who book rooms inspired by her and her wife.
The rooms start at $174 per night and are only available from February 14 through 16. Other “Couples We Love” packages include The Brangelina—a DVD of their most famous movie together, a decadent French snack, a bottle of French wine, and a surprise amenity when you arrive, consisting of Brad and Angelina’s favorite item to pick up while traveling—and The John & Yoko—a $10 iTunes gift card, two cocktails from the Corner Office, chocolate covered “Strawberry Fields Forever,” and peaceful John Lennon and Yoko inspired surprise welcome amenity.
