Last night in Fort Collins, the Colorado State University men’s basketball team held on for a 69-66 win over the Air Force Falcons, despite dismal three-point shooting, reports the Coloradoan. The victory elevates the Rams to 14-6 and third place in the Mountain West Conference, behind two nationally ranked top 10 schools, San Diego State and Brigham Young (via ESPN). The Denver Post notes the Rams are climbing in the college basketball rankings, which help determine what schools get a shot at the NCAA tournament and a taste of March Madness.
In another article, the Post reports the Mountain West and ESPN are showing early signs of a possible partnership after the conference and network had a falling out six-plus years ago. Currently, most Mountain West sports action is aired on The Mtn., a dedicated cable network that has served as a model for other, higher profile athletic conferences. In the past year, the Mountain West has been through major shifts—with Utah ready to leave, and Boise State ready to join—but during a recent annual meeting, representatives decided against further expansion of the conference for now.
