More than 50 Colorado students were among the 990 passengers aboard a cruise ship being used by Semester at Sea that was hit by a 50 foot wave Wednesday, requiring the Coast Guard from Hawaii and Alaska to come and shepherd it to safety. The ship left Vancouver Jan. 18 and was just south of Adak Island in Alaska en route to Hawaii and Japan when the incident occurred. Amazingly, everyone is OK. One crew member broke an arm and another a leg, but those are the only reported injuries. The plans now are for the voyage to continue. Our favorite hair stylist, Alyssa of Cherry Creek’s Emin Fatosh, who is also a college student, is on board. Her mother reports she’s fine. If you know someone on board, here are the message boards. A later news update is here.
