Fort Carson bomb specialists rushed to check on a crashed semitrailer yesterday morning on I-25 north of Denver because it was carrying 500 2.75-inch helicopter-to-ground practice rockets. The commercial semi had been traveling north when it hit a cement barrier in a construction zone, spilling 50-60 gallons of diesel fuel onto the interstate near state Highway 7 near Broomfield, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. The rounds were declared safe after the Fort Carson team, joined by the Adams County Bomb Squad, assessed the situation, and another vehicle was sent to pick up the rockets. The driver is being cited for careless driving causing injury, Broomfield police say, and a passenger in the truck has been taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to The Denver Post. The driver was not injured.
