Just when we thought there was no room for more cupcakes in town, Gigi’s Cupcakes opened its doors. Located in the former home of Blockbuster on Grant Street, this week-old shop’s hallmark is the inches-high frosting that adorns each treat. While some may be tempted to scrape off a good-sized hunk, don’t do it until you’ve tried it. This isn’t barrel icing: It’s made with real butter and cream cheese.

Can’t-miss flavors include Italian Cream Wedding Cake—a delicate and moist cupcake topped with rich cream-cheese frosting and toasted coconut—and Southern Comfort, which has dense cake that rings of pecan pie and a not-too-sweet caramel frosting.

Based on the crowds of sweet lovers mobbing the shop, there are still plenty of cupcake fiends waiting to be satisfied.
