Boozy cupcakes? I am in, especially if they come from Kim & Jake’s Cakes, whose decadent liquor-laced combinations, like the amazing Margarita cakes, put them on the map in Boulder. However, lately I’ve been obsessed with Milk & Cake Yogurt and Cupcakes on Hampden Avenue. The pink champagne cupcakes are a little slice of heaven. Draped in clouds of fluffy pink frosting, laced with real champagne, and dotted with pink sugar confections and pink sugar flakes, these are treats that balance liquor and sweetness.
Milk & Cake is owner Robert Camacho‘s second incarnation of a frozen yogurt and gourmet cupcake shop. The first was 32nd Treat in LoHi, which closed at the end of 2012. This time around, Camacho’s shop is more precise and polished. The cupcakes—an ever-changing array of 20 flavors—are delicious works of art. Rethink breakfast with the French toast’s maple cupcake with cinnamon frosting and a dusting of powdered sugar. Need a caffeine fix? Reach for the mocha latte with fluffy chocolate cake topped with espresso cream. Or snack on the popular Cloud 9 with a graham cracker crust, pecans and caramel baked inside the chocolate cake, and caramel frosting topped with a tiny candy bar. These little gems—and even Milk & Cake’s gluten-free options—will tempt you every time.
Tailgating Tip: Grab a dozen of the Orange Crushsicle cupcakes with zesty orange and blue buttercream to perk up your next Broncos pre-game.
