The long and wild summer of bear attacks that have struck the well-to-do in Aspen particularly hard has entered a new chapter, after a bear went ballistic on a horse in Aurora. During Friday’s incident, a 500-pound black bear found its way into the corral of Cody the horse, clawing the horse’s neck and side before escaping, reports 7News. Cody was injured but is expected to recover. Meanwhile, Jennifer Churchill, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, calls the encounter unlikely: “It is rare for bears to be in the area; but not unheard of. This is the time of year where bears are looking for food.” Wildlife investigators identified paw prints along nearby Sand Creek that appeared to be those of a young bear. The paw prints led both into the property and away, toward the mountains.
