With temperatures hitting record highs across the Front Range, it’s hard to imagine that colder weather exists elsewhere in the state. But tucked away 10,000 feet up in the Rocky Mountains is a winter wonderland. Emerald Lake, in Rocky Mountain National Park, currently has about 40 inches of snow. The hike up is nothing short of picturesque: It meanders through evergreens and passes by both Nymph and Dream lakes. Clocking in just under 4 miles round-trip, it’s a perfect snowshoe outing with panoramic winter views.
