Sometimes you have to wonder if the forecasters are hyping snow to keep the nightly news ratings up. They’re warning that a snowstorm is going to hit the Front Range on Tuesday, but maybe not.

The Denver Post checks in on National Weather Service forecasting models, and while one calls for heavy snowfall along the urban corridor, another predicts that weather will be warm enough for rain. The high in Denver for Tuesday is expected to hit 53 degrees before dropping into the 30s when the wet stuff starts falling. Freezing temperatures may follow. The Vail Daily is predicting both rain and snow for the High Country.

9News meteorologist Marty Coniglio forecasts a “warm snow” that might be heavy enough to weigh down tree branches and power lines. He says snow in Denver will begin Wednesday morning and bring six to 10 inches–unless it rains. Regardless, a winter storm warning is in effect for the foothills around Boulder and Larimer counties from noon until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
