If you’ve been searching for another reason to enjoy the Kahlua (a rum-based, coffee-flavored liqueur) in the dead of winter, you’ve got it: February 27 is National Kahlua Day. And thanks to Randall Layman, bar manager at Ace Eat Serve, you also have three simple and expert-approved variations of classic Kahlua recipes.

Cafe Alexander

You’ll Need:

3/4 ounce Kahlua

1 ½ ounces Appleton’s 12-Year Jamaican Rum

3/4 ounce heavy cream

dash of nutmeg

Directions:

Shake all ingredients together and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Garnish with grated nutmeg.

Corretto Collins

You’ll Need:

1 ounce Kahlua

1/2 ounce Sambuca

3/4 ounce lemon juice, plus one lemon wheel slice

4 ounces sparkling water

Directions:

Shake Kahlua, Sambuca, and lemon juice together. Strain into an ice-filled, tall Collins glass. Top with sparkling water and stir gently. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Black Coffee in Bed

You’ll Need:

3/4 ounce Kahlua

2 ounce Speyside Single Malt Whisky

1/2 ounce Italian Sweet Vermouth

1 teaspoon Sambuca

lemon peel

Directions:

Stir all ingredients together in a mixing glass with ice until chilled. Garnish with a lemon peel twist (pictured, above).
