The simultaneously dreaded and beloved Hallmark holiday is mere days away. If you’re single, you might feel left out. Like it’s just another Thursday (which, let’s be honest, it is). But why not celebrate anyway? Denver is one of the best places to be single, and we can prove it. Here are a few ideas for reveling in your singledom on February 14.
For the single who likes drinking wine with her girlfriends: A wine night is always a good night, whether it’s a holiday or not. Grab your gal pals and get dressed up for an uncorked evening at Caveau Wine Bar. Toast to the single life with happy-hour glasses of wine (4 to 7 p.m.; glasses $13+ are half off and ones under $12 are just $6). 450 E. 17th Ave., 303-861-3747
For the single who wants to hang out with friends: Enjoy a no-pressure evening of beer, fries, and bowling downtown as you swig some cold ones during Lucky Strike Lanes’ happy hour (4 to 7 p.m.). Or up the ante and make it a competitive match—loser buys the next round. 500 16th St., Suite #340, 303-629-9090
For the do-gooder single: Instead of bemoaning your lack of a date, make your day—and someone else’s—better by volunteering in the community. Visit volunteermatch.org to find a good fit for you.
For the single who just wants to stay in: A night at home doesn’t equal boring. Invite friends over for a themed dinner. Even better: Make the whole meal about dessert and drinks. Take turns sharing your most humiliating dating stories and then wrap the night with a flick from this list of the top 10 movies to watch on February 14.
For the single who likes to party: Feel like ringing in the holiday with hundreds of fellow singles? Then the Love SUX party at Howl at the Moon is for you. Dance to the sounds of dueling pianos, imbibe with awesome drink specials ($20 for a bottomless cup of Coors Light or Skyy flavors; get $5 off by purchasing online), and games galore at the anti-Valentine’s Day party. But just so you know: Couples are allowed to attend, too. 1735 19th St., 303-291-0880
And if we may: Still looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right? Check out 5280’s Single in the City party on Friday, February 15. There will be drinks, food, firefighters from the Colorado Firefighter Calendar, dating games, and more. Plus, proceeds benefit Volunteers of America.
