“In fashion, one day you’re in. The next day you’re out.” Heidi Klum’s now-ubiquitous remark on reality TV hit Project Runway might be overly dramatic, but it also happens to be true. Spring cleaning seems to be in full force in Denver’s style scene, with a plethora of stores opening, closing, and moving locations.
Here are some of the highlights:
OPENING
Students and newbie professionals on a budget should book it to Hailee Grace in Larimer Square’s lower-level Walkway. Co-owners Hailee Satterfield and Grace Evans opened their namesake boutique in late April. Shoppers can find everything from colored denim to maxi dresses—all for less than $100. Call it retail therapy sans the guilt trip. 1423 Larimer St., #090, 303-698-2323
CLOSING
Mario Di Leone will be shuttering his Cherry Creek North boutique this summer. Guys, in particular, should pay attention because Di Leone’s entire lineup of top Italian menswear (suits by Gianfranco Ferre, Lardini shirts, and Cesare Paciotti shoes) is now on sale. The CCN shop doesn’t officially close until the end of July, but expect the best selection to run out quickly. Don’t be too sad, though; you can still thumb through the racks at the store’s Aspen location. 2820 E. Third Ave., 303-333-1414; 301 E. Hopkins Ave., Aspen, 970-925-2740
MOVED
We adore Susan Dillon’s line of fine, handmade headwear, so we were overjoyed to hear that she’s expanding both her hat and bridal lines. Sadly, that new focus means Dillon recently had to close her Kitty Mae Millinery retail boutique. Although folks can no longer just drop by her shop to view her exciting creations, they can now find both her workshop and showroom (open by appointment only) in the über-cool RiNo neighborhood. Wazee Union, 3501 Wazee St. #80, 303-949-7617
HAPPENINGS
Anna Bé is promoting independent bridal designers from across the country with its Summer Sessions series. June’s picks include Elizabeth Dye (June 14-15; pictured, above), who produces soft, feminine gowns with thoughtful details and unique trims out of Portland, Oregon, and Brooklyn’s Schone Bridal (June 21-22), which features hand-sewn dresses in classic silhouettes. View the entire roster of designers on the store website. 1575 Boulder St., 720-855-1111
If you’re a retro clothing junkie, get Goldyn‘s trunk show with new, Denver-based vintage collection Orville & Frances (pictured, right) on your calendar. The selection of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories is rooted in Americana (think Pendleton) but still manages to find room for choice pieces by designer heavyweights like Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior. Thursday, June 6, 6-9 p.m.; 2040 W. 30th Ave., 720-489-0580
After a two-year hiatus, Pampered Passions Fine Lingerie is reteaming up with Spa4the Pink and, for the first time, adding Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance to the mix, to revive the “In the Pink” Fashion Show and Ladies Tea. Pampered Passions is often recognized for its dedication to fitting breast cancer patients, and survivors will be strutting the runway in the store’s latest lounge and activewear looks. Sunday, June 23, noon-4 p.m., Pinehurst Country Club; tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased at dogoodbuyus.com
