The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has recalled about 460 pounds of fully-cooked, crumbled, pork sausage products manufactured by Custom Corned Beef in Denver. The meat in packages labeled “Polidori” with the number “EST. 4121” may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a report by 9News.
Health officials say the potential contamination can lead to listeriosis, which causes high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as potentially fatal infections, particularly in people with weaker immune systems.
The fully cooked, crumbled, pork sausage products were produced April 9 and were distributed to institutional establishments in Colorado, according to Food Poison Journal, which reports that federal agencies so far are unaware of any illnesses.
