The scene after an RTD bus ran a red light late on Saturday was tragic. A 1996 Ford truck was smashed into a 7-Eleven parking lot, and a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit was shattered.
The driver of the Rabbit died shortly after the accident, and the passenger died later, reports The Denver Post. At least 12 other people were injured, and four are in serious condition.
RTD spokeswoman Pauletta Tonilas says the bus driver is a contract worker for Chicago-based Veolia and should have been subjected to the same training and drug testing required of RTD employees, writes 9News.
Veolia spokeswoman Valerie Michael says the company is cooperating with investigators, but she will not discuss the driver involved or the company’s protocols after such an incident.
